About / Scapi Creative
A little about
the two of us.
It started
with Scapi.
Scapi Magazine grew out of an interest in Chicago artists and the work they wanted to share. With Scapi Radio, the two of us sat down with people to talk about what they were making, why it mattered, and what it took to keep going.
At the end of our first podcast, Daniel needed a sign-off. “Go out and make something” was what came out. It stuck. That’s still a pretty good explanation of what we’re doing here: making our own work and helping other people get theirs out into the world.
Scapi Creative brings together that magazine, our portfolios, and our work with businesses and arts organizations. Maureen’s brand book names four values: experimentation, intersectionality, accessibility, and collaboration. Here’s what those mean to us.
01
Try things.
A new format, an odd idea, a project we haven’t tried before. We want to see what happens. Some things won’t work; that’s part of making anything.
02
Know who you’re talking to.
People bring different experiences, resources, and needs. We listen, question our assumptions, and explain things without talking down to anyone.
03
Make it together.
The people doing the work should have a say in how it’s shared. We bring our writing, design, and technical skills; our collaborators bring knowledge we don’t have.
02 / The people
Hi. We’re
Maureen and Daniel.
We work together at Scapi and bring our own interests to it. Here’s a look at Maureen’s communications and design, and Daniel’s websites, journalism, and fiction.
